Tatarstan Minister for Trade and Foreign Economic Ties Hafiz Salikhov met Bangladeshi Ambassador to Russia Nazimulla Chaudhuri in Kazan yesterday. They noted several areas with great potential for expanding bilateral relations between the two republics.
As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by Press Secretary to the Tatarstan Ministry of Trade Ilshat Galiavin, it is likely that Tatarstan companies will participate in developing oil and gas fields and in laying gas pipelines in Bangladesh as well as collaborate in the electricity sector. Other potential areas of cooperation include the delivery of tea, seafood, textiles and other goods to Tatarstan from Bangladesh. As the ambassador pointed out there are a great many Tatarstan companies specialising in heavy engineering and other industries which would enjoy a lot deal of demand in Bangladesh. These include gas compressor units, KAMAZ trucks etc:
After negotiations the two sides agreed to raise the level of communication between the two republics within the near future and organise a specialised exhibition in Bangladesh displaying Tatarstan products.
In recent years Bangladesh has imported vacuum pumps and air pumps, trucks and truck parts as well as aircraft from Tatarstan. The highest level of trade turnover between the two republics was in 1999 when it came to USD 10.986 million.
