Uzbekistan and Germany discuss development of economic cooperation

Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov received on Friday in his residence of Oksaroi Germany's State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology Axel Gerlach.

In the course of a conversation that ensued the head of Uzbekistan pointed to the dynamic development of Uzbek-German economic relations. The sides exchanged views on further development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Germany is placed second among European Union countries for the number of joint ventures in Uzbekistan. Currently Uzbekistan has 138 Uzbek-German ventures, 55 firms and companies operating there. Among them are Siemens, Daimler-Chrysler, BASF, Thiessen Krupp, Lufthansa, and Alcatel. Four big German banks -- Deutsche Bank AG, Bank Gesellschaft Berlin, Commerzbank AG, and Dresdner Bank -- have opened their offices in Uzbekistan.
