Date for Reburying Russian Empress Maria May Be Set Very Soon

The date for reburying Russian Empress Maria, the wife of Emperor Alexander III, may be set very soon. A statement to this effect was made by St. Petersburg Mayor, Vladimir Yakovlev while talking with Uffe Elleman-Jensen, the Chairman of the Danish National Committee for the preparations for St. Petersburg's tercentenary. Mr. Yakovlev said all involved would rather the matter was resolved as soon as possible. All that is left now is to set the date, and that depends on the schedule of the visit to Russia of Margrete II, the Queen of Denmark. Mr. Yakovlev and Mr. Elleman-Jencen agree the date must be possibly distanced from the city's tercentenary so that the two events may not interfere with one another. The reburying of Dagmara, a Princess of Denmark, the Empress of Russia, the wife of Emperor Alexander III has been discussed for quite a while. It was one of the central topics during the visit of Mayor Yakovlev to Denmark during the summer of 2001. The Empress died while visiting Denmark in 1928. Her reburying was the initiative of Prince Nikolai Romanov, the head of the house of the Romanovs.
