Law enforcers to pool efforts in fighting organised crime in Baltic region

The Baltic region is not directly threatened by terrorism but the drive against organized crime and for prevention of different types of offence are on the agenda. Such is the opinion of Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Vassiliev, who heads a Russian delegation at the conference of the interior ministers of the Baltic Sea States Council (BSSC). The Baltic region's police authorities are seeking to join efforts in combating drug trade, money laundering, illegal immigration and other dangerous manifestations of crime, he added. Measures against organized crime and terrorism are to be under review at a prime minister session of the Baltic Sea Staters Council to be held in St.Petersburg on June 10, said Vassiliev. Russia intends to continue maintaining a high level of cooperation within the BSSC framework in combating organized crime and expects an equally constructive approach on the part of all the partners.
