Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom does not have documents that would make it possible to ship Siemens equipment from Canada. The equipment is necessary for the operation of the Nord Stream gas pipeline that supplies natural gas to Europe.
In such circumstances, Gazprom refused to predict a further development.
"Under these circumstances, it is impossible to draw an objective conclusion about the further development of the situation with ensuring the safe operation of KS Portovaya, which is a critical facility for the Nord Stream gas pipeline,” the company said in a statement.
It was earlier reported that Canada already shipped the gas turbine engine to Europe. According to Canadian journalists, the Canadian authorities agreed to exemptions from sanctions against Russia for a period of two years, which would allow maintenance of Siemens equipment for the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
