Ukrainian minister claims people in the Donbass have no genes

Ukraine's Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgeny Nyshchuk apologized for his words about the lack of genetic background in the Donbass. The official stated at a government meeting that he did not want to offend anyone and sincerely asked for forgiveness.

Earlier, the Minister of Culture said that the people in the Donbass and Zaporozhye had no genetics, because those territories had been populated artificially. It was later said that the official's remarks were misunderstood.

The statement surprised the Ukrainian media. They quoted the minister, who spoke in a television broadcast about the reasons for the slow dissemination of Ukrainian culture in the south-eastern part of the country. Answering a question from a reporter, Yevgeny Nyshchuk said: "When we talk about the genetic background in Zaporozhye, in the Donbass, we mean imported cities. There is no genetic background there."

Later, the minister said that he spoke about the increase in the culture of dialogue and exchange in eastern regions of Ukraine. According to him, the cultural exchange has started only recently, and the culture is forming in our times. "I am a totally adequate and tolerant person. Do not ascribe any racist views to me," the minister said.

Official representative from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Western officials would not pay attention to the statement from a senior Ukrainian official yet again.

Many bloggers in Ukraine said that they were ready to tolerate "bastards, but not idiots" in power.
