Maria Sharapova to be back with wild card

Maria Sharapova may receive a special invitation - wild card - from organizers of Roland Garros Tennis Championship, which will be held from May 22 till June 11.

The list of tennis players to receive wild cards will be exposed 15 days before the tournament. Acvcording to the organizers of the prestigious French tennis tournament, they have time to think whether Sharapova receives the wild card or not, TASS reports.

On March 7, 2016, Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova announced at an urgent press conference that she had been tested positive for using meldonium during the Australian Open. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) included meldonium on the list of banned drugs in early 2016.

On June 8, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) disqualified Sharapova for two years for the violation. The punishment came into force on 26 January 2016. A few days after the verdict, Maria Sharapova appealed to the CAS.

Because of the disqualification, Sharapova has missed three Grand Slam tournaments - the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, not to mention the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Yesterday it was reported that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, cut the disqualification term of the Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova from two years to one year and three months.
