Turkish MP jokes about downing another Russian jet over basketball game

Turkish MP Shamil Tayyar, who expressed a desire to shoot down another Russian plane after Turkey's Fenerbahce lost to CSKA Moscow in the final of the Euroleague Basketball, called his words a joke. "Guys, relax," he tweeted.

Tayyar was very much upset about the defeat of the Turkish team. "I want another Russian plane shot down," Tayyar tweeted after the match ended with the score 101: 96 in favor of the Russians.

After a wave of negative reactions to the statement, the politician wrote that it was a joke. "How can I, as a man who finds the destruction of the Russian aircraft a mistake, may defend a second mistake? As long as it has come out to this level, I can say that it was a joke," the Turkish MP tweeted.

"This is a joke, guys, relax," he added.
