One killed, 20 injured in battle between two Hungarian families

Gunshots were fired and one hand grenade was thrown in a fierce fight between two families in eastern Hungary that killed one man and injured 20 people.

The blast from the grenade killed a 51-year-old man and left three others with life-threatening injuries, said police spokeswoman Agnes Kovacs in Jasz-Nagykun-Szolnok County.

Six others were treated in a hospital for serious injuries and 11 people were lightly injured.

The confrontation took place in the town of Torokszentmiklos, 115 kilometers (70 miles) east of the capital, Budapest.

Police, who said the two families had a long history of feuding with each other, set up roadblocks around the town and detained eight people suspected of taking part in the violence, the AP reports.
