Car theft on the rise in Moscow

The number of car thefts in Moscow has risen. According to statistics provided by the capital's State Inspectorate for Road Traffic (GIBDD), 4,773 vehicles were stolen in the first five months of this year. This figure is 80% higher than for the same period last year, when 2,673 vehicles were stolen.

However, police work to recover stolen vehicles had improved. Since the start of this year, police have managed to find 5,662 vehicles on the wanted list (including ones stolen earlier), Moscow's GIBDD chief Sergei Kazantsev reported on Thursday.
