Verdict on Vladimir Gusinsky's extradition expected

Adoption of a decision on extradition of Vladimir Gusinsky to Russian justice was yesterday put off for Tuesday. The verdict will be passed in the afternoon. Asked by a RIA Novosti correspondent about the reasons of the postponement, Spanish lawyer Plaza said that many urgent cases had amassed in the National Judicial Chamber of Spain over the past Easter week. For this reason, the reading of the final decision on the Gusinsky case, which was considered on Monday again, was put off for another time. According to the lawyer, the judges are likely to take a decision not to extradite Gusinsky. "In principle, an opposite variant is also possible, since everything may happen in life, but this looks most unlikely", Plaza said. The final decision on extradition of the Russian media mogul is to be taken by the judicial college of the 4th section of the Criminal Chamber of the National Judicial College of Spain. On March 26 these judges ruled to release Gusinsky from prison on a bail of 5.5 million dollars, but the opinions of the members of the college divided during the voting. Carlos Olliero came out against it and registered his special opinion. It is not ruled out, therefore, that the current delay with the reading of a decision on Gusinsky's extradition is caused by the differences in the trio of judges, which they are trying to overcome.
