Russia's Defense Ministry Beefs Up Protection Of Nuclear Facilities

The Russian Defense Ministry is making additional steps to increase security and protection at nuclear installations, the RIA Novosti correspondent quotes Colonel-General Igor Valynkin, chief of a main division at the Russian Defense Ministry, as saying. "Additional organic mobile units have been introduced at nuclear ammunition depots. They have better armaments and are better prepared", said the general. He is sure that "these units can hold out against terrorist groups". Valynkin thinks that overland groups of terrorists can stage terrorist acts at nuclear facilities. Simultaneously, he stressed that the Defense Ministry does not fear a terrorist attack like that in the United States on September 11. He said that "facilities in which nuclear ammunition is kept in Russia are designed in such a way as to resist a nuclear attack".
