Russian Press Ministry Spokesman: Freedom Of Speech And Other Rights Of Media In Russia Met In Full

The freedom of speech and other rights of media in Russia are met in full. This is the opinion of deputy press minister of Russia Andrei Romanchenko, which he expressed at the workshop "Media Rights and Responsibility in a Democratic State" underway in Moscow. According to Romanchenko, compared with the rights, media responsibility is a different story. Over the past decade there appeared such notions as "ordered article," "black PR," as well as an abundance of non-professional journalism, which spoil the image of a democratic Russia. In case of violations of the law on media the Press Ministry takes certain measures, i.e. warnings and letters fixing the violations. However, Romanchenko does not rule out tougher measures unless the situation improves. According to him, media representatives should find "the golden mean" between the freedom of speech and professional responsibility for their work.
