The "New Italian Cinema" festival opens on Tuesday, March 4th, in the St Petersburg House of Cinema. The organisers of the festival are the Italian Embassy in Moscow, the Italian Consulate in Saint Petersburg, the Saint Petersburg Museum of Cinema, and the Moscow State Cinema Museum.
The festival will start with the 1959 "Calamitous Deceit" film by Italian classic of cinema Pietro Germi, the House of Cinema disclosed to a RIA Novosti correspondent.
The festival program includes 7 full-length films directed by masters of Italian cinema in 2001.
The program of the festival also includes numerous meetings with directors of the festival films. It is expected that Marcello Cesena, Giulio Manfredonia, Marco Simon Puccioni, Fraco Angeli and Francesco Apolloni will participate in the festival.
The festival will be held in Saint Petersburg for the first time and will last till March 11th.
