Garry Kasparov Loses to Computer Program "Deep Junior"

On Thursday night in New York the score of the historic chess match "Man vs Machine" became even. After the victory in the first game and the draw in the second, Kasparov due to the ridiculous mistake lost to the computer program "Deep Junior".

Playing with whites, the former World Champion made the mistake on the 32nd move and placed the rook on h5. Kasparov immediately realised his mistake, but it was too late and the "Deep Junior" gained an advantage of two pawns. Kasparov was forced to surrender on the 36th move, when the situation for the whites became hopeless. The game lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes. "The ridiculous mistake for a player of his level was caused by the time pressing," American Grand Master Maurice Ashley commented on Kasparov's mistake. "It proves that even the greatest player of all times remains a human being." "Deep in our souls we are very happy," Israeli programmers of the "Deep Junior" Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky said.

The score of the match is 1.5-1.5 and the fourth game will be held on February, 2. The last match of the world's best chess player against the IBM produced "Deep Blue" was held in 1997 and ended in favour of the computer. Kasparov back then tried to argue about his defeat by saying about the possible involvement of "prompters" and the fact that the "Deep Blue" had been quickly carried away after each game.

"On the whole the "Deep Blue" was a PR action and the "Deep Junior" is a real opponent, who is not hiding behind the curtain," the Grand Master stressed.

The present tournament with $1mln of prize winning money gives Kasparov a chance to return the match and to prove the human's superiority over the product of his intellectual labour. Kasparov's fee for the match is $500,000, $300,000 will go to the winner of the match and $200,000 will go to the defeated party.
