Russian No.1 Anastasia Myskina has made it through to the third round of the Australian Open. On Thursday the Russian player won her second round tie against a difficult opponent, Emmanuelle Gagliardi from Switzerland. The first set was a disaster for the Russia. After twenty minutes she was already 1:5 down, and although she battled back to 5:5, Gagliardi still won 7:5.
In the second set Myskina took the initiative and managed to break straight away. The Swiss player's game began to suffer, as she was losing the second set 6:2. Myskina romped away with the deciding set in just 23 minutes to record a 5:7, 6:2, 6:0 victory.
Accordingly, Anastasia Myskina booked her place in the third round where she will meet Clarisa Fernandez from Argentina.
