Mourning events to be held in Moscow to mark anniversary of September 11, 2001 tragedy

On Wednesday US Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Vershbow will participate in a number of events to be held in Moscow to mark the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

As the press service of the American Embassy reported, a memorial service for the diplomatic community and the Russian guests will be held at the Spasso House residence of the U.S. Ambassador at 16.00 Moscow time.

Then Vershbow will solemnly open a memorial exhibition in the American Center at the Library of Foreign Literature. Photographs showing the tragedy of September 11 and its consequences, as well as snapshots reflecting the sympathetic reaction of the inhabitants of Russia who came to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow are presented at the exhibition organised by the U.S. Embassy. Furthermore, a montage compiled from letters expressing condolences and headlines in the newspapers issued on September 12, as well as photographs provided by NASA are presented at the exhibition.

As RIA Novosti has learnt from diplomatic sources, on that day the U.S. Ambassador also intends to lay a wreath at the Wall of Memory of the victims of the terrorist act in the underground passage in Pushkin Square (an explosion which took many human lives resounded there in August 2000).

Listed among the other events slated to be held on Wednesday is the Memorial Concert in memory of the victims of the September 11 events which is to take place in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.
