Indian film festival opens in Veliky Novgorod

The first Indian film festival opened in Veliky Novgorod (the north of Russia) on Tuesday, October 8th.

Deputy director of the Kinoservis association in Veliky Novgorod Alexandra Boiko told a Novosti correspondent that films by famous Indian film-maker Raj Kapoor, beginning with The Vagabond which was popular in the 1950s, will form the basis of the festival programme.

All in all, during six days Veliky Novgorod inhabitants will be able to see six Indian films, made in the 1950-1980s, in the big and minor halls of Kinotsentr (Cinema Centre).

The Indian film festival is organised in Veliky Novgorod on the initiative of the Embassy of India in Russia and of the Kinoservis association.

The exhibition of works by Indian photographers 100 Years of Indian Cinema, which will be held in the Kinotsentr entrance hall, will be timed to the holding of the film festival.
