Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev presents Italian film director Roberto Benini with "Man of the World" award

On Saturday, Italian film director Roberto Benini received the Man of the World award at the Nobel peace prize winners summit in Rome. The award was presented by former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

Roberto Benini's film "Life Is Beautiful," an Oscar holder as Best Foreign Film a few years ago, is universally recognized for glorification of life and love against war and violence. Roberto Benini said that he would like to hand the award over to the world's contemporary generation, which, according to him, is the first generation since Adam and Eve demonstrating strong anti-war attitudes.

The summit whose agenda features major issues pertaining to preservation of peace and protection of environment will continue work through Sunday.
