Shortly after becoming talk of the town for singing wrong lyrics of the National Anthem, Christina Aguilera issued a statement. The 30-year-old Grammy-winning singer said she forgot the lyrics because she "got caught up in the moment."
"I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place," Aguilera stated referring to the February 6 live telecast. "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through," according to AceShowbiz.
According to Gant Daily, to be fair to the Grammy Award winner, she sang the song beautifully and has been not shown any indication that she confused the lines. And besides, no one can argue that her rendition is way better than Roseanne Barr's during the 1990 baseball game between the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds at the Jack Murphy Stadium.
In December in Kansas City before a game between the Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, Mike Eli of the Eli Young Band messed up the lines of the song so badly that he had to start again from the beginning.
Aguilera, who took the stage in a black dress, was returning to the Super Bowl after being one of the performers during the halftime show in Atlanta in 2000.
After it was announced that Aguilera would be singing the national anthem for the 2011 Super Bowl, she boasted that she had been performing the song since she was seven and was "excited to be part of such an iconic event," Telegraph.co.uk reports.
