James Cameron the "Avatar" filmmaker last year earned the most green in Hollywood -- $257 million.
Cameron, writer, producer and director of the 3-D blockbuster, ranked tops on Vanity Fair's list of Hollywood's 40 biggest earners from films among stars, directors and producers.
Cameron's haul breaks down to $248 million for his work on "Avatar"; $5 million for his share of toy licensing and other revenue for the film; and another $4 million in back-end royalties from earlier projects, the magazine said, New York Post reports.
Johnny Depp was the highest paid actor, netting $40 million for Alice in Wonderland, $35 million in upfront cash for the next Pirates of the Caribbean, and $20 million for The Tourist.
Leo DiCaprio ($62 million) and Christopher Nolan ($71.5 million) can thank each other as Inception helped them both have a stellar year, though DiCaprio also starred in the Scorsese thriller Shutter Island, according to Digitaltrends.com.
