Host of "Jeopardy!" Alex Trebek suffers heart attack

Alex Trebek, longtime host of TV game show "Jeopardy!" was hospitalized Tuesday for a minor heart attack.

The Canadian-born Trebek, 67, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles late Monday night and was expected to remain there about two days for tests and observation, said show spokesman Jeff Ritter.

"Thankfully it was a minor heart attack," Ritter said. He did not have other details.

The official "Jeopardy!" Web site said: "He is resting comfortably in a Los Angeles hospital, and he will be back in the studio for the next scheduled tapings in January."

Trebek has hosted the syndicated show since 1984. He has won several daytime Emmy Awards for his work and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Trebek escaped a car crash unhurt in 2004 when he fell asleep at the wheel and sideswiped a string of mailboxes, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Jan 30, 2004, accident, which left Trebek's car in a ditch, happened in the town of Templeton.

Trebek's heart attack was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."
