Specialists from two Russian pharmaceutical companies announced the invention of a new medication to for the treatment of AIDS.

First clinical trials have shown that the medication was safe and effective in suppressing the propagation of infection. The drug is also resistant to mutations of AIDS. Experts believe that the new medication may become the main one in combination with several drugs used for the treatment of the deadly disease.

The chairman of the board of directors of VIRIOM, Nikolai Savchuk, said that the drug was not going to be expensive in industrial production.

According to the UN, there are as many as 1.3 million AIDS patients living in Russia as of the middle of 2013.
