Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Chechnya’s capital Grozny on Monday.
Two helicopters landed in front of the governmental complex.
Putin made a speech in the Chechen parliament that held its first meeting at the time.
He congratulated the winners of the elections, saying that they “should work for good of Chechnya”.
The president also called on the parliament to help the restoration of Grozny.
The capital should be restored in 2006, he underlined.
“Peace has come to the republic, and its foes have nothing to do here,” the president said.
Chechnya’s President Alu Alkhanov thanked Putin “for respect for the Chechen people and for the president’s coming to the opening of the parliament of the Chechen republic” according to Itar-Tass. V.Y.
