The presidential term in office will not be extended, at least not while he is in power, Vladimir Putin assured the nation on Tuesday, as he fielded questions via a video link from cities and towns across Russia. President Putin said Tuesday that he foresaw no major constitutional changes to extend the presidential term, RIA-Novosti news agency reported.
Asked during a phone-in session whether he contemplated calling a national referendum on the issue, Putin said: “My ambition is to create conditions for the country’s long-term development and therefore I consider it unfeasible to introduce any radical changes to Russian laws, primarily the constitution.”
