Chechnya has chosen a flag and seal for the republic in time for the June 12 Russian Independence Day celebration in Moscow's Red Square, when all units of the Russian Federation are to have their regalia on display.
The new flag shows red and green portions divided by a thin band of white. A wider band of white runs along the inner edge of the flag. The seal shows an oil tower (symbolizing the republic's mineral riches), spikes of grain (the fertility of the land) and a watchtower (symbolizing the republic's historical roots).
