US ministry to build housing for the needy in St. Petersburg

The U.S. department for housing and urban development is willing to cooperate with St. Petersburg in housing construction. This statement was made by Secretary Mel Martinez at a meeting with governor Valentina Matvienko in St. Petersburg.

Mel Martinez said the USA attached major significance to the development of relations with Russia and therefore cooperation with St. Petersburg is seen as an activity with happy prospects. He promised to share the U.S. experience in housing construction for different strata of the population.

He told reporters that his department was looking forward toward starting practical implementation of housing construction and crediting plans. Mel Martinez expressed readiness to discuss investment into the sector.

For her part, Matvienko noted that the projects the US department is implementing for St. Petersburg are very topical, especially as regards housing for low-income people and mortgage crediting.
