Traffic police to cooperate with Sberbank

The Russian traffic police department is planning to establish informational exchange with Sberbank to increase the level of fines paid by violators of traffic rules, Pavel Bugayev, the deputy head of the Russian traffic police, declared at a news conference today. Sberbank will provide traffic police with information about fines paid by drivers. In their turn, traffic police will work out some measures against those who avoid paying fines.

According to Bugayev, only 20 percent of drivers have paid fines after the new Administrative Code was adopted. In 2001 some 98 percent of fines were paid. As a result, every Russian region losses about 10m rubles ($330,000) per year, due to such non-payments, he added.
