Nato Secretary General Describes As Interesting Russia's Proposals On Creating European Abm System

NATO secretary general George Robertson described as quite interesting the proposals made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the creation of a European missile defence system. He said this on Friday in Brussels at a meeting with Russian journalists accredited with the NATO headquarterss. George Robertson reminded them that the Russian President's aide, marshal Sergeyev, visited the NATO headquarters late in April to explain Russia's proposals. Igor Sergeyev added some details but there still remains a whole number of technical issues, the NATO secretary general said. Robertson characterised as quite interesting the Russian proposals and said that they had been examined not only at the ambassadorial and ministerial but also at the expert levels. According to him, both Russia and the USA recognise that the spread of missile technologies has created a new threat in today's world. NATO and Russia are holding consultations on the theatre of operations ABM system, George Robertson said.
