The volume of Russia's imports from far foreign countries amounted to $7.279bn from January 1 to April 20, 2001. The State Statistics Committee reported it registered imported goods worth $1.619bn over the first 20 days of April. This is $205.4m, or 14.5 per cent more as compared to the corresponding period in March 2001. In particular, imports of food products went up $421.9m, or 1.4 per cent, imports of chemical products rose $313.8m, or 11.6 per cent. In addition, imports of textile goods and footwear increased $561.4m, or 26.9 per cent and the volume of imported machinery surged $561.4m, or 26.9 per cent. Meanwhile, the volume of grain imports dropped 19.1 per cent and dairy imports reduced 2.1 times.
