Kursk to be cut again. The use of the operation is unclear

The schedule of Kursk lifting was changed again, the head of the governmental committee for investigation of the reasons of the Kursk wreck Ilya Klebanov said. According to the new plan, Kursk will be raised in three movements. The sub will be cut in two parts. The back part of the submarine is to be raised next autumn. The terms of the raising of the front part are still unknown. Probably it will stay on the seabed forever. The schedule of the Kursk raising was changed because of the following reason: torpedoes, which have not detonated as the disaster occurred, can be kept in the front part of the sub. They may damage the equipment, which will be used for the sub’s raising. The submarine will be cut in two parts by means of special device, but not by means of divers. Then foreign vessels will lift the back part of the sub. The terms of the operation are not determined yet. This is the problem of finance. The front part of the submarine will be raised by Russia’s means only, Klebanov said. Apparently, the raising of the front part is scheduled for the next year. By the way, according to experts, the operation will be extremely difficult. The partly destroyed front part of the submarine will be covered with silt, the hull will corrode. Thus it will be impossible to raise the remains of the vessel. The aim of this action is unclear. It was some use of lifting the submarine entirely, though many experts consider that the repairing of the sub is impossible in any case. After the vessel is divided in half, there will be no use of the operation to raise it. It is useful to lift the reactors and the missiles of the sub in order to avoid ecological pollution. But the rusty and destroyed hull can be only used as metal scrap.
