The European Union finances “total cleaning” in Russia’s Kaliningrad region
Officials of the European Commission have become very anxious about the ecological situation in the Russian city of Kaliningrad and on the neighboring territories. Indeed, smells that are felt in the air of the region are likely very unpleasant for Europeans. The central executive authority of the European Union decided to provide financing for realization of a project aimed at modernization of the system for wastes processing and for organization of environment protection arrangements. The sum will make up 2 million euro.
The EU representative office in Russia officially declared the information today. Initiators of the project say, it is going to be “a three-stage program focused on treatment of solid domestic wastes.”
As European experts admitted their incompetence in modern Russian realities, they developed the program together with the Kaliningrad regional administration. The Northern Investment Bank, which stockholders are Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland, will disburse the money meant for clearing of Russia’s western outpost. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will also pay money for realization of the program.
From the Russian side, administration of the Kaliningrad region and department for state control and perspective development in nature management and environmental protection in Russia’s north-western region will become partners in realization of the project.
