Israel recruits reservists

The leadership of Defence Army of Israel has taken the decision to the number of reservists in the combat units. However, for the first time within last several years, people over 40 will be recruited into the reserves.

Even doctors of city and village hospitals will join the army. They will be replaced by their colleagues from North America and South Africa who on their own free will work in Israel.

It was a group of 22 doctors who proposed this idea. They arrived in Israel this week to acquaint themselves with Israeli emergency civil and military medical services.

Today, a report came from accross the ocean that UN Assembly General passed a resolution demanding that Israel immediately withdraw its troops from Palestinian territories and to return them to the positions they occupied before September 2000. One-hundred-forteen countries voted for this document, four were against it, and 11 countries abstained from voting.

Among the countries who voted against were Israel and the US. The resolution contains the demand to “immediately stop all acts of violence, including military operations, and destruction and terrorist acts against civilians.” The counter sides should be aimed for recommencement of political dialogue.

In the document, the formulas are softened in comparison with two drafts that were first offered by a group of Arab countries. Some debates about last week's published UN report on the June events in the Jenin Palestinian camp forewent the voting. The authors of the reports had not found any signs of mass murders as committed by Israeli troops during their military operation; however, they expressed some reproaches both to Israel and to Palestinian sides.
