Mikhail Gorbachev: Russia and the West should unfreeze relations

Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev advised holding summits to "unfreeze"  relations between Russia and the West.

According to the Rossiiskaya Newspaper, ex-Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev proposed the authorities of Russia and the West should hold summits to "unfreeze" international relations.

"I propose the leaders of Russia and the United States should think about holding a summit on a broad agenda, without preconditions. One should go through the whole spectrum of relations and problems. Still, these two countries have a special responsibility. When they go away from this responsibility, the world faces serious consequences," Gorbachev said, the newspaper wrote.

According to him, the two countries need to go back to work on global threats and consider the creation of the Security Council for Europe. The idea dates back to the 1990s, he added. "One should not fear that someone may "lose face," that someone will win a propaganda war. All this should belong to the past. We must think about the future," Mikhail Gorbachev said.
