14 kg of Afghan heroin seized in Nizhny Novgorod

During operative-search activities to prevent the spread of drugs, officers from the FSB Department for the Nizhny Novgorod region (Volga area) have blocked the activities of a criminal group specialized in bringing large batches of heroin from Afghanistan.

On Friday the board's assistance programs sector said that four members of the organized criminal group have been detained in an attempt to sell a large batch of drugs.

In this operation, about 14 kilograms of heroin and two of hashish have been withdrawn from illegal turnover.

The board said that the channel had been smoothly functioning for months, ensuring the sale of heroin from Afghanistan through go-betweens in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

The department's investigation section has initiated a criminal case under article 228, part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal spread of narcotics).

The required investigative and operative-search measures are being taken.

The assistance programs sector noted that it is the second operation involving large batches of drugs over the last two weeks. On July 21 the FSB department seized 20 kg of heroin from Afghanistan.
