Chechen militants kill 2 servicemen, 1 policeman

In the Staropromyslovsky district of the Chechen capital unidentified people killed two servicemen of the Russian Defense Ministry, a source from the Staff of the Joint Group of Forces in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

"On Tuesday at 0:20 a. m., Moscow time, three unidentified people penetrated the house of a serviceman of the Zapad infantry battalion of the Russian Defense Ministry and killed him and his brother, a serviceman of the same battalion," the source said.

According to a staff spokesman, the militants stole two Kalashnikov sub-machineguns and a Makarov pistol and disappeared. The criminals are being searched for.

In his turn, a source from the Chechen Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti about an attack on a policeman in the Oktyabrsky district in the small hours of Tuesday.

About 1:10 a.m. Moscow time, four camouflaged and masked men penetrated the house of an inspector of the traffic patrol battalion of the republican Interior Ministry and, threatening with weapons, stole his service Makarov pistol with 16 cartridges," the source said.

The criminals managed to disappear. The fact is being investigated.

In the Vedeno district, militants opened fire at the policemen of the district interior office, a spokesman for the republican Interior Ministry also told RIA Novosti. "Another incident took place at 00:30, Moscow time, in the village of Dyshne-Vedeno. Unidentified people shelled from sub-machineguns and under-barrel grenade launchers policemen from the Vedeno district interior office who were patrolling the area," a source from the Interior Ministry said.

According to him, as a result of the firing one policeman from the patrol service was killed. The attackers are being searched for.

As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the North Caucasian regional patrol department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), one of the active members of a Chechen illegal armed unit was detained by Russian frontier guards at the Daghestan section of the Russian-Azerbaijan border when he attempted to go abroad.

The detained has already admitted that is an inhabitant of Chechnya and a member of an illegal armed unit. For further investigation he was handed over to the Russian Interior Ministry.

In the first six months, this year, the frontier guards detained at the southern borders of Russia about 600 trespassers and more than 650 violators of their frontier regime. Fifteen men were detained on suspicion of being involved in bandit groups.

More than 7,700 pieces of different ammunition have been withdrawn from them, the press service reported.
