The investigation into the case of the explosion in Grozny on May 9 has four main versions, Sergei Fridinsky, deputy General Prosecutor, told journalists in Grozny.
"At present, the investigation has four main versions, the gist of which boils down to the following: the terrorist act was committed to destabilize the situation in the republic in the festive days and intimidate the population. And second, the aim of the terrorist act was the assassination of top leaders of the republic," Mr. Fridinsky said.
He demonstrated to reporters the explosive devices, which had not exploded: an artillery shell and a plastic bottle filled with explosives. If all three explosive devices went off the consequences would have been much worse, Mr. Fridinsky said.
As RIA Novosti was earlier told in Chechnya's Prosecutor Office, the criminal case on the May 9 terrorist act in Grozny involves 73 persons in the capacity of the aggrieved persons.
"According to the investigation's data 73 people suffered as a result of the terrorist act committed on May 9 during the Victory Day concert at the Dynamo stadium in Grozny. This number includes six dead, four of whom were killed on the spot by the explosion and the other two died later of wounds in the hospital, the spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office said.
On May 9 at the Dynamo stadium in Grozny an explosive device went off when festivities devoted to Victory Day were on. Killed by the explosion were Chechnya's president Akhmad Kadyrov, Khussein Isayev, Chairman of the State Council of Chechnya, journalist Adlan Khasanov, two of Kadyrov's bodyguards and an 8-year-old girl. Commander of the joint group of troops in the North Caucasus Colonel-General Valery Baranov was heavily wounded.
A criminal case was opened under the Criminal Code's articles "terrorism" and "murder".
