African community in Voronezh too terrified to go outside.
These people call themselves RNE (Russian National Unity). They claim to protect all Russian patriots and they wear jack-boots and swastika tattoos, the same symbol as the Nazi invader who slaughtered twenty million Soviet citizens a
little more than fifty years ago.
The death of a 24-year-old medical student from Guinea-Bissau, stabbed to death by Nazi extremists in Voronezh, has caused a stir in the eight Portuguese-speaking countries. Five of these, the African Portuguese-speaking countries Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe, have students in Voronezh, who send home stories
about the growing climate of terror felt by the African community.
Hardly a week goes by without a knifing or severe beating, by these RNE elements whose only motive is the colour of the victims' skin. Calling them "monkeys" or "apes" they chase them through the streets, motivated by racial hatred of a scale similar to that of the Nazi hordes who attacked Russia not
so long ago.
Amaro Antonio Lima, a medical student from the Portuguese-speaking African country of Guinea-Bissau, was stabbed in the back and chest on 21st February. He succumbed to his wounds. The Guinean embassy in Russia has no means to help its students, for which reason the Guinean community has
called on the two wealthier Portuguese-speaking countries, Portugal and Brazil, to use their diplomatic weight, persuading the Russian authorities to provide protection for these people, whose only crime is to be born black and to take advantage of educational programmes in Russia.
The fact that Russia is composed of a multi-cultural society makes these attacks by these dysfunctional elements the more absurd. The fact that they wear the symbols of the Fascists who killed their grandfathers' generation proves that they are traitors.
