IOC president Jacques Rogge to arrive in Moscow

Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee /IOC/, will arrive in Moscow on Friday. He will take part in the opening ceremony of the International Youth Sport Games. The ceremony will be held with the participation of young athletes from the CIS /the Commonwealth of Independent States/ countries, the Baltic states and Russian regions at the Luzhniki stadium on June 15th.

The games, which now have a right to use Olympic symbols, will be held in the Russian capital from June 15th to 24th with the participation of more than 6,000 young athletes.

Jacques Rogge who was elected IOC president at the last year session in Moscow, will arrive in the Russian capital on June 16th, Games' organisers reported. The high-ranking official is expected to visit a number of sporting facilities where various competitions will take place.

As has been previously reported, these facilities have been reconstructed or repaired. The Games Organisation Committee has purchased all necessary sporting equipment and accessories.

Moscow is currently in the race to be granted a right to host the 2012 Olympics. In this regard, the state of sporting facilities is the issue of utmost importance.

The official programme of the Games includes 17 Olympic kinds of sport and two demonstration ones - bowling and pentathlon. However, the IOC is highly likely to make them Olympic sports in the near future.
