Let us imagine a couple of situations in order to draw the line between group sex and an orgy.

Two tipsy men are trying to elbow each other aside as they bill and coo a woman that looks completely loaded. A husband who is craving to spice up his sex life has somehow managed to talk his wife into having a threesome i.e. a sex session involving himself, his wife and another woman at the same time. However, the man seemed to overestimate his lovemaking potential and imagination and therefore ends up making a nuisance of himself in the eyes of his bewildered wife and the other woman who looked bored and disappointed. Or a sex party in a bathhouse where two or three couples are swinging partners and going all the way while others just sit around and watch the show, sipping at their drinks. The above activities fall under group sex.

The picture looks slightly different when it comes to an orgy. This kind of sexual behavior involves a number of people engaged in an act of licentious revelry including kissing, hugging and the like in a venue chosen for the occasion. The participants sip their wine without getting drunk; the wine can only make the flame in their bodies grow higher. They frolic naked in the grass or on the floor; they dance their wildest dances while getting ready to penetrate one another repeatedly and joyfully. The public intercourse between people of any gender or sexual orientation can last for hours, no holds barred. A sexual orgy implies no limits or restrictions whatsoever – a basic difference between the above and group sex. Group sex is just group sex, whereas an orgy is a practice performed when everything is permitted.

A bit of history

Orgiastic practices were part of all pagan cultures in days of old. In one way or another, the practices had to do with the cult of fertility and the worship of certain deities associated with the cult. Special days marking the end of a season were allotted for festivities in which the people were allowed to take a break from their daily toil and “let off steam.”

The people of ancient Greece would wear head decorations made of ivy leaves during the Bacchanalia. They would drink wine and play reed pipes and timpani while singing and dancing. Men would imitate animal voices for calling upon the gods. An orgy would begin once the crowd has gone into ecstasies. The participants of an orgy were thought to improve fertility of the soil by copulating on the ground.

The Romans seem to have gone too far after taking up the mysteries and Bacchanalia from the Greeks. The orgies ceased to be a rather innocuous form of pastime and amusement for the peasants; they were transformed into a most outrageous entertainment for the depraved Roman aristocracy in Nero’s time. We will not elaborate at that point. Those interested in details are recommended to look them up in Satyricon by Petronius.

The ancient Slavs held celebrations marking the eve of the Ivan Kupala day or the day of summer solstice. The people would go bathing in the rivers to wash away evil spells and diseases; they would place wreathes onto the water and search for a fern’s flower. They would also jump over a campfire and do some fortune-telling after dark. The festivity also included sex games in the water and on shore. Having sex on that special night was not considered a sinful act.

Ecstatic practices including those characterized by sex existed among the ancients e.g. the Egyptians, Babylonians, Indians and many other peoples.

In most cases the pagan orgies involved certain rites and plenty of sex-related activities such as group sex, homosexual sex and swinging. Other sex acts performed during the orgies are better left unmentioned, as far as we are concerned. The point is that those engaged in the orgies would be invariably put into a trance in the end. The techniques used for sending participants into a trance were a mixture of loud rhythmic music and dance, chanting of incantations, fire rituals and the use of mind-altering substances.

In other words, the ancient orgy was a part of the rite, an element of the mystic ceremony designed to establish contact with the pagan deities, and improve the fertility of the land.

The present

Compared to the story of a long time ago, the situation has changed dramatically. Most people stopped using the aforementioned rites for seeking union with the divine government. In other words, the orgies were no longer filled with their symbolic and semantic content. A sexual orgy can be arranged these days too if need be. Yet the people are very inhibited about group sex, and therefore it takes a lot of effort to get things going. Creating an atmosphere that can help remove the inhibitions is the key to success.

Those taking part in an orgy should forget who they are for the time being, they should temporarily give up their social identity, which imposes behavioral restrictions. This is the first and most important step they should take. For a certain period of time, participants of an orgy should take off the masks and guises they wear in their regular life e.g. a man should forget that he is known as a successful sales manager; a woman should forget that she is a housewife and mother of two; another man should forget that he is a respectable university professor. They can strip their clothes off and step into the light – the easiest way to break down the barrier. No doubt about it, it is hard to take your pants off and remain in the altogether. On the other hand, it would ludicrous to act in a “decent way” with your pants down. Likewise, a guy wearing a necktie during foreplay would look preposterous. Once they get naked, participants can also get rid of their complexes relating to physical imprecations. You do not have to be ashamed no more after exposing your “beautiful” body to those who care to look at it.

On the whole, participants of an orgy should lay special emphasis on the very start of it. Things will go on smoothly if the doors slide open at the right moment and the most sensitive part of the event is handled with utmost care. Eventually, the orgy will fade away quietly.

The flip side of the coin

Now it is time you answered the question: Is it really worthwhile taking a chance on the experiment we are talking about?

First, taking part in an orgy can result in irreversible emotional trauma or damage done to the relationship, especially when your partner has a different opinion and frowns upon the practice. The couples undergoing a crisis are particularly at risk. Second, persons engaged in promiscuous sex run a higher risk of contracting sexually transmitted infection. Therefore, it should be noted that the use of condoms is a must. Third, all participants of an orgy are required to show great care and delicacy with regard to one another no matter how paradoxical the assertion may sound. Sexual intercourse lays bare not only the bodies; it also uncovers insecurities, thus making participants extremely vulnerable and sensitive. As a result, any screw-up, blunder or clumsiness experienced in the process can trigger psychological trauma. Fourth, going into raptures over the brand-new sensations can be too much for you to handle. Consequently, it can bring about a nervous breakdown and make you suffer from remorse and inferiority.

Fifth, 90% of the sweetness of the forbidden fruit has to do with the fact that the fruit is actually forbidden. However, you may find it pretty sour and then you will be greatly disappointed.
