Storm Ingrid moves through Atlantic

Ingrid turned westward in the open Atlantic on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds were near 35 mph (56 kph) with higher gusts, and forecasters do not expect it to strengthen significantly in the next day.

At 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT), Ingrid's center was about 210 miles (338 kilometers) east of the Leeward Islands.

The depression was moving west-northwest near 10 mph (16 kph) and was expected to continue this path for the next 24 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.

On Thursday, Ingrid became the ninth storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. Ingrid was downgraded to a depression after weakening Saturday.
