The 32-year-old woman lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was planning to move to the United States soon to join her husband, an assistant professor of anatomy and physiology at Harvard, Fish and Game Conservation Officer Brian Abrams told The Conway Daily Sun in its Monday editions.

The woman was on a 10-day trip to visit her husband when they drove from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Saturday morning to hike a trail in the White Mountain National Forest, he said.

That afternoon, the couple sat down on a log for a snack.

"The log was on a slab ledge that was covered with moss and leaves. He sat down on the log, and then his wife walked out on the log and sat next to him," Abrams said. "They were only there about 10 seconds, and they heard a loud crack and the log broke."

Abrams said the couple went sliding and the 36-inch (91-centimeter) wide, 24-foot (7.32-meter) log rolled over them, severely injuring the woman's head.

The husband was not seriously injured. He and a nurse hiking near the scene tried to resuscitate the woman, but she was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived. The couple's names were not released.
