Two New Jersey men are accused of trying to steal money from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's personal bank accounts.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said the banks first notified his office about the situation in August.

One man is accused of trying to steal $420,000 (296,505 EUR) from two Bloomberg accounts with forged checks.

The other is accused of stealing $10,000 (7,059 EUR).

Morgenthau said it is unclear whether the men were working together or how they got Bloomberg's account information.

Bloomberg, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at $11.5 billion (8.1 billion EUR), declined to comment through a spokesman.
