Hundreds of Buddhist monks marched to Myanmar's famous Shwedagon Pagoda, marking the fourth straight day of protest against the military junta.

Braving intense rain, more than 200 monks were marching from Yankin township on the outskirts of Yangon to the Shwedagon Pagoda, where 50 monks had already gathered, witnesses said.

It was the fourth straight day the monks have marched in Yangon. Their activities have given new life to a protest movement that began a month ago after the government raised fuel prices, sparking demonstrations against policies that are causing economic hardship.
