Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake duet not going to happen

Britney Spears has pulled out of recording a duet with former boyfriend Justin Timberlake at the last minute, reports claim. Justin allegedly penned the song especially for the troubled singer and had arranged for hip-hop star Timbaland to produce it.

Spears' record label Jive is said to be furious over her decision to ditch the number, which was expected to kick-start a career comeback.

Without a show-stopping song to perform, bosses are concerned she will "bomb" at the MTV Video Music Awards in September, reports Digital Spy.

"Timbaland set aside a week out of his crazy schedule to do this" a source told the column "Then, just before she was supposed to fly out, Britney abruptly canceled the session and refused to do the song.

"It's crazy. She's looking for a comeback, and this would have not only been a huge hit, but something she could have opened the MTV Video Awards with and really blown everyone away."

However US magazine have now ran a report claiming that such a plan never existed.

“There have been absolutely no plans for Britney and Justin to record a duet together" a source told US.

"There have been lots of discussions about who Britney is working with and Justin has not been one of them.

”Nothing with Justin was ever even discussed. Justin has had no time to do it between planning his HBO special, his own Video Music Award stuff and working with Madonna anyway."

However both publications agree on one thing – that Brit’s record label Jive is nervous about her upcoming performance at the MTV VMA's, reports Entertainmentwise.
