Heavy rains and floods forced about 300 tourists to evacuate campsites in northern Spain early Monday, the regional Interior Ministry said.

Rescue workers helped the vacationers, mainly French and including a group of boy scouts, from two campsites - one outside the town of Llanos de Senart and another outside Biescas in the Pyrenees, near the border with France, according to the Interior Ministry in the northern province of Huesca.

The tourists were given temporary shelter in municipal sporting complexes, officials said.

The civil guard also said four French citizens were rescued from being trapped in a vehicle swept away by flood waters.
