A prosecutor ruled that 32-year-old Olympiakos fan Vassilis Roubetis should be jailed as a menace to public safety, court officials said Thursday.

Roubetis and a second Olympiakos fan, 19-year-old Nikos Voyiopoulos, were charged last month with the murder of rival Panathinaikos supporter Michalis Filopoulos during the March 29 riot in an eastern Athens suburb.

The 25-year-old Filopoulos sustained multiple stab wounds and head injuries.

Another nine people have been remanded pending trial for illegal arms possession and other offenses.

The bloody clash between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos supporters prompted a two-week ban on all professional team sports, while the government also suspended all Greek soccer supporters' clubs.
