Sex criminal serving 50-year jail term sentenced to 30 more years

A Malaysian man already serving a 50-year jail term for a string of sex offenses was sentenced to 30 more years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl, newspapers reported Friday.

The Ampang Sessions Court in Malaysia's biggest city Kuala Lumpur sentenced Ismail Shah Abdul Wahab Thursday to 20 years in jail and six strokes of the cane for raping the girl, and 10 more years and four more strokes for forcing her to perform oral sex on him, the Star said.

Ismail, 24, pleaded guilty Monday to committing the offenses in August 2004. Newspapers reported Ismail stopped the girl on a street, asked her to show him the way to a mosque, and then forced her to get in his car.

Judge Noradidah Ahmad ordered the 30-year term be served after Ismail, an antique salesman and father, completed his current 50-year jail sentence, handed down in January.

He pleaded guilty then to raping, sodomizing and performing unnatural sex on three victims, aged 24, 16 and 12, from late 2004, national news agency Bernama said.

"If he is allowed to return to society, the court is concerned that he will repeat similar sexual offenses," Noradidah was quoted by The Star as saying.

Reports said in some cases Ismail posed as a police officer, accused his victims of drug possession, and then blackmailed or forced them to perform sex acts.

Ismail's mother, who was also in court Thursday, told The Star she was "really shocked" about her son's crimes.

She said she had always thought of her son as caring and non violent.
