Rapist jailed in Australia for abusing tourists from France and Japan

An Australian man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday for violently beating and raping a French woman and a Japanese woman in the northwestern Australian resort town of Broome.

David Gundari, 32, had pleaded guilty in the Western Australia state District Court in the state capital Perth to raping the two women in separate attacks in September last year.

The 24-year-old French victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had been walking to a tourist hostel late at night when Gundari clubbed her with a stick and dragged her to a secluded area where he raped her, the court heard.

She lost four teeth in the attack.

Gundari knocked the 32-year-old Japanese victim, who also cannot be named, unconscious as she walked through a park late at night.

He raped her while she was unconscious and again after she regained her senses, the court heard.

Gundari will be eligible for parole after 10 years, backdated to his arrest on Sept. 28.
