Student pilot of British military jet crashed in north Wales alive

The student pilot of the British military jet crashed at an airfield in North Wales was airlifted to a hospital.

The student pilot, who was flying alone, ejected before the Royal Air Force jet crashed at midday at Mona airfield in Anglesey, the Defense Ministry.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said the pilot was airlifted to Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor. There was no immediate word on his condition.

The two-seat plane entered service in 1976 as an advanced flying-training aircraft and a weapons-training aircraft.

The Hawk T1 version is used at RAF Valley in Wales for fast-jet pilot advanced flying training, and the T1A is used for weapons and tactical training.
